Happy Birthday, Gerard Pique!

“Hello, ladies! I’m Gerard.”

Our bean pole center back is 24 today, unless my math skills stink to high heaven. I’d with him a happy birthday, but um, let’s see …. he’s playing for one of the best teams in history, lives in Barcelona, is rich and a World Cup winner and if rumors are true, will probably be celebrating at some point with Shakira.

I don’t reckon he needs me to wish him a happy birthday, but we should anyhow, even while wishing that he had a different surname. Ooooooooh! Moc moc!

Moltes felicitats, Gerard!

In my fantasy life, I’m a Barca-crazed contributor over at Barcelona Football Blog. In my real life, I’m a full-time journalist at the Chicago Tribune, based in Chicago, Illinois.

  1. And if you love the new digest-style front page as much as I do, thank your hard-working Web guru, Tarun. He doesn’t post, so nobody gives him any love, but he’s the most important BFB Team member. Nice!

    1. Love the new style, easier to navigate. On the downside, you can’t see the picture so Vicsoc could Hleb us again without warning.

    2. Great addition to this place.
Ths blog is growing and adding quality day by day during the last weeks!
And its not as if it was lacking it anyway! πŸ˜€

  2. WOW! New design! Nice work Tarun, but I preferred the old style 😐

New the “lastest” post should cover the entire top layer and the rest underneath it. Sort of like at ZonalMarking.

  3. Stay safe all of you who are getting buried in snow. We got rain instead of the ice we were supposed to get last night * sings happy lack of winter precip. song* so I’m in a much better mood than yesterday (or maybe my mood comes from knowing that in several hours I’ll get a fix of my Barca).

    LB today?

  4. wow I come back from college and its an entirely new blog :O

Oh and wrt Pique..I for one believe he is the bargain of the century..I just can’t believe we got him for just 5 mill while Fergie retained Evans *snicker*

  5. via barcastuff:
-The Barcelona board has approved a new way to become a club member: the commitment card.
-The commitment card will cost 125 euros a year, and after having the card for 3 year, one can become a member of FC Barcelona.

    1. What the fudge? So basically you pay 125*3 375 bucks to become a member? Eh, and you do have any advantages with just the “commitment” card?

    2. The Barcelona board has approved a new way to become a club member: the commitment card. The commitment card will cost 125 euros a year, and after having the card for 3 year, one can become a member of FC Barcelona. The commitment card will give people the same rights as club members, except right to vote, season-ticket and tickets for finals.

  6. Just as an aside, I fully expect to see Messi out there today (but the kid needs a rest!) because they’re making a big deal at the official site about him being top scorer in the CdR. I actually hope that they rest Abidal today because he hasn’t had a break since I can’t remember when and we NEED him to stay healthy! Busi at CB instead of Pique may be a good thing to preserve Pique’s foot (I saw that Pep didn’t call up any B team defenders yesterday). My lineup prediction:

    Alves, Pique, Milito, Adriano
    Thiago, Mascherano, Keita
    Ibi, Messi, CT

Hopeful prediction 1-3 (Messi (2), Keita), I think Goitom will slip one past us finally.

    1. I read that and i knew it was done deal that he is playing hope he scores at least two so it would be worth it.

  7. From barcastuff:
Thiago: “Good morning! I discovered that Adriano has the smallest ear in the world!”

    lol how random is that!

  8. Also, has anyone else seen that the atdhe.net site has been seized by ICE – Homeland Security Operations? Yikes! I may have to go back to GolTV after all.

  9. Wow, the blog has changed. We have about 5 new writers, a new look and a million new posters. plus the whole membership thing. I feel left out since I can barely keep up while on the road.
One suggestion for the new look of the site: put the writers name on beside the article title, or somewhere (could also do a thumbnail picture)

  10. Ok this is wierd. Pique is excatly 10 years younger then Shakira. They have the same birthday, today obviously…

  11. This is awesome on so many levels *http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2011/02/02/2334593/osasuna-striker-walter-pandiani-cristiano-ronaldo-has-a

  12. I was just going to post a rant about the committment card, but didn’t want to get in the way of Isaiah’s preview. Still not definite on whether you have to apply for it in person or not. Saw the first notification of it via the Catalan version of the official site, not up at the English side yet (might be now?).

Appalling. I understand the notion, but I don’t agree with it. Most emphatically.

  13. I had no idea i had been heavily Hectored. Dont you all think admin should have i way of alerting us when a new post comes on. Something like a comment from the poster in big red letters would do.

    1. Thanks for the clarification.

i just typed rojadirecta, and forgot if it was a .com, .net. org, .edu.

  14. The Almeria preview is coming. Isaiah is busy working up some bodacious ire over the commitment card.

–The new design is part of the move to get everyone to understand that a new post doesn’t kill old posts, that all posts are active. Now that the quantity of quality of posts will be flowing from our all-conquering team, there might be a post with a very good discussion going on. The new front will enable you to see how many additions have been made to the most recent posts.

“Hectoring” is lots of fun, but it can also derail the excellent discussions that we have here, something I’d love not to happen. So we’ll see.

Meanwhile, I’m still giving Tarun cyber hugs. I wouldn’t have thought of this in a million years, which is why I do words, and he does tech, but I just love it.

    1. I was going to suggest this to you guys yesterday, but in the way that someone up in the comments mentioned ie a page-width first post (with visible picture) and the rest being in boxes, like a news site instead of the usual blog format so that other headings would be visible and people would click on them instead of all discussion being only on the post visible without scrolling down on the homepage.

    2. the new format of the site , me thinks , eliminates much of hectoring when a new posts appears. You can now easily see the amount of comment risen in a previous thread and you can keep it alive this way for longer!

    3. I could end up looking daft for asking this but in the light of the aim of keeping old posts live, is it possible to have a way of knowing if someone replies to one of your posts? At the moment we have t search through all of posts to find this.
