In my fantasy life, I’m a Barca-crazed contributor over at Barcelona Football Blog. In my real life, I’m a full-time journalist at the Chicago Tribune, based in Chicago, Illinois.

    That was very satisfying. 😀

Aside from a few blips, we played really well. Mascherano was brilliant. Abidal was Abiriffic! And his goal–well we can argue whether it was offside or not, but the point is, he took the shot! He has tasted glory and he wants more!

All of our regular scorers scored, plus Iniesta! He has now scored 5 times as many goals as he did last season. That is, 5. Awesome. And Messi’s goal…I don’t even have words. He somehow rewrote the laws of physics and warped the air. It’s official. Messi can now do anything.

AND most importantly of all–we did it all without Xavi! Without Busquets. Without Dani Alves. That’s important.

And how about Pretty Fly For A Dutch Guy? He was on the field for less than ten minutes, but in that time, as Kxevin said in the LiveBlog, he looked like “one of us”. His passing, his ball control, his confidence. I liked what I saw. Didn’t you?

Maybe Pep wanted to show Sandro something like: “Hey look Mr. President, we do not even need Xavi to play a beautiful match of tiki-taka, so why the heck should we waste 45m on Cesc!?!”
(that’s my hope, but maybe Pep is the actual booster of a Cesc deal…)

        January 8, 2011

I think that was the case with Dani. Just put him on the bench to show him that he’s not as irreplaceable as he thinks he is. (Even though he might just be) And Adriano had his best game of his Barça career so far.

I don’t think Sandro is stupid enough to spend 45m on Fabregas, whilst not giving Alves a pay rise… Just let Xavi play until he drops down dead on the pitch, then get Cesc. 😉

          January 8, 2011

you prefaced that sentence with “i don’t think Sandro is stupid enough….”.

just thought you might want to correct that clear error of reasoning. 🙂

            January 9, 2011

Sorry, English is not my first language 🙂
What is correct then? “I doubt Sandro is …”?

          • Helge
            January 9, 2011

BA was talking about an error of reasoning, not a grammatical error.
He wanted to hint at the widely spread opinion that Rosell is actually THAT stupid.

So, to answer your question, correct is: “I know Sandro IS stupid enough…”

      On Afellay:
“We accept him, we accept him, one of us, one of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble…”

Another great game. We were in no danger whatsoever. What a hard working bunch of players we have. There have been other great teams but I don’t remember any of them working as hard as this till the very end. Mind you, with the example Puyol sets I wouldn’t dare not work with him as my captain. To me, he’s exactly what Arsenal lack.

    About Puyol (from barcastuff):

Carles Puyol is the first player ever to win 19 Liga matches in a row in the history of the Spanish league.

    Grande Puyol!

Couldn’t LiveBlog today, but what a match.

–Phil Schoen should just STFU. Seriously. How long will it take for him to understand that Abidal is NOT Maxwell’s back up? “Locking his place up”? Please.

–Another INIESTAZO. Man, it makes me so, so happy to see Ghostface scoring almost bi-monthly. There was a time when he only score annually if we were lucky. Forcefield is well and truly down (for the time being)

–Win without Xavi (who is going to win FIFA Ballon d’Or), Alves and Busi. Nice.

    — Villa gets his 150th goal. Nice match from El Guaje (compared to others).

–Afellay almost got his debut goal—sucks that Aranzubia was thismuch quicker to the ball.

–What can I say about Messi? He’s adding FKs to his arsenal. Playu him for the pass, he’ll shoot. Play him for the pass, he’ll run by you and score. Now, it’s foul him, and he scores off a FK. Best player in the world who won’t win the WPOTY, but who cares.

–Puyi was in full-on Tarzan Beast mode. Cutting out play after play. Some of his defensive plays are as good as our offensive ones. Seriously.

–Pique’s last minute brain fart didn’t matter because Valdes is always on and dependable. VV FTW!

–Adriano RB > Adriano LB, but I’m still a bit on the fence on Adriano.

–sMasch. I like, I like. Still eating my humble pie and drinking mah Koo-laid. Awesomeness, along with Keita. Considering these two having played in an age and still kick butt when they play leads me to believe our bench isn’t nearly as…rusty/unreliable/etc. as some people are making it out to be.

–Thiago is so boss. That is all.

Play him for the pass, he’ll shoot. Play him for the pass, he’ll run by you and score

That should be, “Play him for the pass, and he’ll run by you and score. Play him for the run, and he’ll pass.”

This is why I should look over what I right.

        January 8, 2011

Found another one. It should be “Considering they haven’t played in an age”.

Phil’s statements are so ridiculous. I was killing him during the LiveBlog. He is so annoying. How one can create his own story lines and version of events for so long, I don’t know.

Please, Phil, if you’re reading this, know that I DON’T LIKE YOU. Why, you ask? Because you are clueless. K, thanks.

I told you to stop listening to him during the game. Ok, I didn’t take my own advice because I was complaining too.

  6. January 8, 2011

So much balance offensively its….. well offensive!!! I cant help but smile at Pedro’s progress. What a blessing this kid has been, his work rate is ungodly!

Man City got Dezko today, they are gonna be sick up front….I would keep Teves, Balioteli, Dezko, Johnson and Silva up front, and add Bale lol. Send yaya back to DM get rid of Milner and Barry and add 2 creative mids out of Mata,Modric, Pastore or Nasri plus another creative mid. They would be the second best team in the world if they did that

    • Nik
      January 8, 2011

There’s a large gap between assembling a roster and assembling a working team.

Besides, Tottenham won’t sell Bale. Nor will Nasri get shipped out of Arsenal.

That game was us being back to us (the grammar in that didn’t work out so well—don’t feel bad Kari). My take on it for what it’s worth (which isn’t much)
    1. Abidal can play anywhere.
    2. Pique has some great offensive moves—then has the defensive brain fart of the century at the end
    3. Cavemen make great CBs
    4. Affellay looks promising although I need to see more before I’m convinced that he’s the second coming like some of you think he is.
    5. I LOVE MESSI —not a fangirl thing but a true fan thing
    6. We SO don’t need to be even thinking about signing He Who Must Not Be Named (CF4) yet.
    7. Having the “do I play sMasch or Busi headache” is a headache that most coaches would kill for.
    8. Thou shalt not tick-off Messi, or do so at your own risk
    9. Pep looks younger with his hair shaved
    10. I thought that Kari has forbidden CT to play w/out a snood.
    11. 3-way ties for Balon d’Or should be allowed

Your opinion is always worth a lot. Thanks for trying to make me feel better; it’s the mom in you that pities me, isn’t it? 😛

I thought that Kari has forbidden CT to play w/out a snood.

I did, but he’s in his rebellious stage at the moment. Sigh.

    From barcastuff:
Mascherano recovered the most balls (15) and completed the most passes (118) in the game against Deportivo

My my Masche, how you’ve settled in
