Villareal is looking very sharp against Valencia. No score yet, but it can’t be long now.

        Goal Rossi! 1-1.

God, why didn’t he choose to be on the USA NT?! Ahhhhhhh

And guess who finished it off? 😀

    Via barcastuff:

Valdes – Alves Puyol Fontas Maxwell – Xavi Mascherano Iniesta – Pedro Messi Villa

I’m glad Pique is not in the line-up and that sMasch is!

Fontas starting, Pique on the bench. I hope it works.

Official line-up: Valdes – Alves Puyol Fontas Maxwell – Xavi Mascherano Iniesta – Pedro Messi Villa

Pep used Masch to sMasch and protect Fontas.

It would’ve been the biggest surprise in History of Football if Pep put Afellay in the starting line-up.

Its a good idea to play Masch at DM given that Fontas is starting. Masch naturally tends to play deeper than Busquets and will provide more central cover in front of Fontas.

For example, Masch tends to play very deep for Argentina and I think that’s likely in part to try to make up for the limitations of the CB playing behind him (especially demechelis).

Almeria is a poor team. It’s a good opportunity to get Fontas some experience. They are going to need a 5th CB. There’s no question about it. At the same time Almeria’s only chance to score will be off of counters and/or mistakes.

Playing CB for Barca is extremely difficult because of how high Pep wants his back line to play so that the team remains compact. The CB and full backs are put in dangerous positions where any mistakes they make can have significant consequences.

Excited to see Fontas play. Let’s hope Pep makes additional adjustments to try to take some pressure off him. Beside playing Masch and having him sit deep it might be a good idea to not have the full backs push up the pitch so aggressively.

And in the schadenfreude department, Chelsea lost to Birmingham today! 😀

Bojan: “I’m very happy. I’ve always known I’m able to play at Barça and games like these help to show it to the outside world.” [barcastuff]

    Outside world = Kxevin? 😛

Just joking with ya, Kxevin. It’s just fun to bring out your non-existent bias.

Hopefully we draw another english team so we can hand out some more reminders later this season.Hate this disparity shit.why cant we just be good?

    • Kari
      November 20, 2010

Because they’ll never be that good. Have you seen their NT recently, jordi 😉

    • csidle
      November 20, 2010

You are hopelessly misguided if you think disparity is not a huge problem in La Liga. Barca could beat Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal all 5-0 in a week and it wouldn’t do a thing to prove that there wasn’t a problem of disparity in the league. This game was pathetic and while the team played well, it’s such a negative that this is even possible.

      • Kari
        November 20, 2010

        Sigh.

Look, it’s like this in EPL or another league not called the Bundesliga (although Stuttgart has had it’s share or 6 and 7-0.) as well. I’m tired of always making this argument, so I’ll just leave it at that.

  26. blitzen

Why I want Bilbao to win more than usual:

“It’s amazing how much venom ppl like Paul hold in their black hearts against a team like Real Madrid- a team which wears the white color- a symbol of purity and truth. Sometimes I pity these haters, God give them some sense! I’m sure they’ll repent in hell!”

Paul is the Bilbao blogger at the Athletic offside, by the way. A really good one at that.

Hey guys, hope you don’t mind if I give myself a little name change. 🙂

Man, oh, man, WHAT A GAME. Partidazo, I believe, is what they call it. And the scariest thing: we didn’t pull out of 1st-2nd gear.

Basically, the only thing I can reiterate is that pre-game, I, like others, was worried about not having Piqué in the back. But holy hell, Fontàs was highly impressive. Not just his defense, but his passing, as well. He was the one who hit that long ball to Pedro for the 5th. Incredible player.

Great game, great day. Vamos mi Barça campeon!!!

CRonaldo has 14 goals, 4 from penalties.

Messi has 13 goals, 0 from penalties.

  55. Goo
    November 20, 2010

I’m still feeling bad for Lillo and Diego Alves. The goalkeeper conceded just 10 goals in 11 games, then his team’s defense decided to take a day off and we get 8 past him.

Messi got his hat trick, Fontas impressed, and Bojan scored. A BRACE. AND NO TAP-INS. Everyone seems ready for the clasico, where we will once again reaffirm: MESSI >>> CRon, Barca >>> EE.
