We are playing well now. It’s good to see. So at least there’s that.

Time to experiment? If Tito says so…

This is the kind of ref Mou enjoys. Tito was right in his presser before the game. Nice runs from Pedro, kinda like Montoya over there. An off game for Busi, Song and Tello warming up. Tello would be great, but who would you take out?

Song with a 91st minute goal!

  4. August 29, 2012

I think the Higher Being wants us to win this through a goal around 80 minutes or close to the end, so RM has no chance of coming back 😉

    Song is in!

He and Higuain are teammates for Argentina. I think Pipita subconsciously doesn’t want to make him look inept.

    August 29, 2012

Honestly we might have had a better chance making it 3-2 with 11 men than 2-2 with 10. Dominating with 10 men and we fought. Didnt get a shred of luck in this game.

    • G6O
      August 29, 2012

They had about 5 one-on-ones in the last 20 minutes – that’s not exactly us dominating the game

    • Kimcelona
      August 29, 2012

Really, thats not the point. We had TEN men and still had them in their own half for majority of the second half where we were whiskers away from retaining the trophy.

  29. August 29, 2012

Oh look, we shake hands and stay on the pitch.
I love this team. Playing with 10 men and came so close <3

  30. Helge
    August 29, 2012

Still, considering both matches and the absolutely horrendous errors we have made, you cannot (or at least should not) be happy about this Supercup.
Luckily, it was only the Supercup…

  31. Humphrey Bogart
    August 29, 2012

at the end VV howler proved costly, w/o we would have won the pot, but more importantly we did help them back in their stride

    • August 29, 2012

Really? VV also saved our ass too.

    • G6O
      August 29, 2012

He wouldn’t have had to do it had it not been 3-2

    • jordi™
      August 29, 2012

He just means the extra away goal was costly. In a way if it had happened early like this game we might have still made it 4-2 but it was so late we couldnt do anything about it.

    • August 29, 2012

With hindsight, we can say that. But RM had 11 against us 10 for most of the game, so anything could happen irrespective of the result at the Camp Nou.

    • jordi™
      August 29, 2012

Well its not an attack on Valdes or saying he didnt do well today. Its just a fact that when its a 2 legged tie away goals knock you out.I would say the same if Xavi passed the ball too hard from midfield directly into our own goal

    • lea_terzi
      August 29, 2012

Valdes repaid for that a dozen times over, I think

    • Helge
      August 29, 2012

No, it were simply too many howlers in both legs, from players like Valdes, Mascherano, Pique, Busquets, to win a k.o. round against an out-of-form, but still individually good Real Madrid.

Even today they did not really shoot a goal made from brilliant play or something, it was all down to our mistakes!

  32. TITO
    August 29, 2012

Well, i liked Song, he did more in 10 minutes than Busi did for 80. You cant expect to have a good game when your entire midfield is asleep for 90 minutes.

  33. mangut
    August 29, 2012

Was pretty convinced the last goal at the Camp Nou would come back to make all the difference and it did. VV came through big time today. Was Sanchez missed at all?! Song is going to contribute and help rest and push Busquets. A man gut is better than manboobs.

    • mom4
      August 29, 2012

Tito needs to sit Sanchez’s butt for a good long time. Adriano should never have started where he did.

      Ugly looking cup anyway.

    • G6O
      August 29, 2012

Sanchez’ form is a huge problem – last year he was instrumental in the win at the Bernabeu and I am sure he is a main component of our strategy for beating EE this year too. However we has not been a threat at all since the beginning of the season 🙁

    • TITO
      August 29, 2012

That’s the strange thing, cause he was maybe our best player in the preseason, but suddenly he just dropped his form.

    • G6O

I had that suspicion too. Too bad it turned out to be correct…

    August 29, 2012

The fact that we almost won the trophy on 92nd minute via a legit Barca move just says it all. Always fighting, alway true to ourselves. Proud of us today.

  38. August 29, 2012

Yes. I love my team. Absolutely proud of them. They left it all on the pitch. Played well apart from those first 30 mins. And I’m not gonna blame them for anything. There’s a good reason why you don’t play so many ‘tough’ matches this early in the season. When the players are upto speed, then watch out!

Song did well out there, needs time, but like the effort. And do you guys still blame VV? What use is a 3-1 in the 1st leg if you are going down by around 5 goals in the next. Way to shut his critics.

Thank you Mou for the 1st 30 mins. We’ll be ready for that the next time 🙂

We played our game, and played it while we were down to 10 men. That, I’d take over the trophy, which by the way they deserved, the way they took their chances and didn’t do so many mistakes like we did.

Lets hope we continue the good form in the 2nd half to the game against Valencia. That’s more important..

  39. phunky
    August 29, 2012

Pique was my MOTM after Barca went down to ten men. He was sweeping almost anything. Great to see him step up when required.
Proud of our performance today. If not for stupid individual mistakes, we played pretty damn good.

    • jordi™
      August 29, 2012

Its like he and masch realised if they didnt wake up we would get a historical bath. Different players those last 65 minutes.

    • _Lily
      August 29, 2012

Agreed. I thought that Pique was absolutely amazing – he prevented several one-on-one situations and contributed to the attack, too. I hope he maintains his current run of form this season; we’ll win trophies for sure.

  40. jordi™
    August 29, 2012

Montoya looked good imo.Considering he was dealing with Cristiano and Ozil. Clearly a much more natural RB than making poor Adriano play there just because hes two footed.

  41. TITO
    August 29, 2012

Was thinking, it was not like we started to play better when we went to 10 men, but when actually a right back took that position and our defense started to look more solid. Tito’s mistake not to start with Montoya on the right.

    • Blau-Grenade
      August 29, 2012

      Absolutely agree with that assessment.

    • lea_terzi
      August 29, 2012

Wasn’t there a match once when Adriano kept TB in check admirably? Wasn’t he playing right back then? Not sure if I remember correctly.
Tito went for experience, which is what most coaches would do. Neither Adriano nor Alba were prepared to enter the way they did, Alba didn’t even have time to warm up. Game plan went haywire. It just shows the players’ and coach’s class, that they composed themselves and held out.

    • Kimcelona
      August 29, 2012

No he was at LB. It was when Abi was out with the tumor.

    • lea_terzi
      August 29, 2012

      Thanks, memory is hazy 🙂

    • Ryan
      August 29, 2012

Adriano played left back in that game (Copa final) when he did well vs. TB. He was at fault for the headed goal that TB eventually scored, but that was after regulation time. So Adriano at least had a good 90 minutes of defense as a left back!

    • nzm
      August 29, 2012

From memory, Adriano came in on the right in the 2nd Supacopa at Camp Nou last season, I think. But he came on as a hybrid right-side player (roving up and down) in support of Alves (who then stayed back), because Alves didn’t go off.

Shortly after that, Cristiano was forced to switch wings because Alves and Adriano shut him down. Then he got owned by Abidal on the other side!

    • lea_terzi
      August 29, 2012

      Ah, good times

    • lea_terzi
      August 29, 2012

Bigger problem is that he took 4 minutes to pull Alexis for Montoya after the red card, and Khedira almost scored in the meantime.

  42. nzm
    August 29, 2012

Ah well – we can count our stars that it wasn’t 31-0. 😀

    • Blau-Grenade
      August 29, 2012

I guess so. lol. You are funny!

  43. jordi™
    August 29, 2012

Alexis needs to learn from pedro. Fight through the pressure and you might get a shot off. Sometimes he is actually fouled but going down every time means he wont get any calls. And hes bigger than Pedro and Ive seen him fight through rough play so I dont understand why he does it.

  44. August 29, 2012

Quick thoughts (only saw about 60mins ish):

-We have height problem both in defense and attack. Crossing is going to be a nightmare for us.
-I like what Song did in that last pass to Messi near their goal area.
-Busi was invisible. Good that he has some competition.
-Everyone else looked focused after we were down to ten men. I like that!
-Having a center forward and tall defense would be nice. Is it too late, Zubi?
-I’m not complaining about the result. In a strange way, it’s good that we know our shortcomings, instead of living on false hopes.

  45. rohitv16
    August 29, 2012

Amazing 2nd half from the boys… Couldnt believe how well we could control the game a man down… Madrid stepped down the gas but still it was as if we were playing 11 v 11 when a man down. Great effort from the boys in the 2nd half. Brilliant FK from Messi… Good that we lost… A nice kick in the back for the boys which should do more good than anything else.

Hopefully Puyi gets fit soon. Dani’s absence sorely felt as no one really could feed Messi from the right… Montoya was unbelievably good for his age. Pedrito is back. And Victor… the best player out there today. Nice positives for us…

    Visca…. Now for the league…

May I suggest an alternative word, though? True fans? Bonafide fans? Actual fans? 🙂

    Proud of this club.

Against Madrid, 2 down in 20 minutes and reduced to ten men, we showed spirit and class. Once we settled,(after the 30 th minute), I didn’t notice that we were a man down. We were that good.

Well fought game. Props to them for taking it to us while we were reeling, but supreme effort by our guys.

    Onwards and upwards. Visca Barca!!

VV proved his class today, it was a pity about the mistake in the first leg but he was immense today,

Adriano had a shocker before he was even sent off, beaten by Ozil and Ronaldo before the red card. Stick to the subs bench unfortunately.
Pique & Masch were ok once they each gave away a goal but there was far too much space between them and Busquets was too far forward.
Alba was great at left back and nearly won the tie for us in the final few minutes. He is the most energetic player I’ve ever seen.

Busquets wasn’t his usual self IMO and dwelt on the ball a little too much.
Xavi and Iniesta were poor in the first half and didn’t improve til Messi came very deep.

Pedro worked tirelessly and nearly grabbed another Clasico goal.
Alexis was fairly poor and is going to get himself a terrible reputation for diving.
Messi was very good in the second half but there was little more he could have done. He didn’t get much protection from the referee but that’s usual against EE.

I liked all three subs, Montoya should maybe have started, Song was good when he was on and Tello is clearly Tito’s favourite ‘B’ teamer.

Congrats to them, I hope it’s the only thing they win this season 🙂

    • replayed
      August 29, 2012

      “Montoya should maybe have started”

No doubt about it. I suspect he didn’t start because he wasn’t even dressed for the match at the time Alves went down injured. Tito’s fundamental error was not to have had him on the bench in the first place, leaving the team with absolutely zero cover at right back. I suppose Alves has proven himself to be durable, but still… Anyway, I’m glad Montoya got the chance to show that he could take the heat. May be not have to spend any time with the B team this year.

I suppose it’s a wonder that Madrid hadn’t gone for the aerial assault strategy more in previous encounters. I’d expect other teams to follow suit and start bombing more balls against Barca, at least until the team shows they can deal with them.

Song looked surprisingly comfortable in his short spell on the field. He kept his passes short and complete, which was wise. But i know he can be very accurate with the long ball as well. Once he has the timing down, I look forward to what he can do with Villa and, especially, wide receiver Pedro.

Alexis’s confidence must be shot for him to be going down so easily. Maybe Pedro’s recovered form and Villa’s recovered health have unsettled him. He has to fight to stay in the lineup. He can start by fighting to say on his feet.

Valdes was immense. But so was Casillas, probably the man of the match on the day.

All in all, a great match, notwithstanding the score.

    • _Lily
      August 29, 2012

Hasn’t Montoya officially been promoted? I don’t think the B team is an option for him, Bartra, dos Santos, or Muniesa anymore.

    • August 29, 2012

It’s easy to say that “Monotoyo should have started”. With Puyol out it was normal to see Adriano starting especially with Montoyo getting no prior game time.

    • August 29, 2012

Valdes was brilliant for most part. But he should have easily saved that Ronaldo goal. there was nothing in that shot. And to make it worse, it was going straight at Pique. He deflected it the other way. May be Pique shud have screamed to leave it.

    • August 29, 2012

Busquets wasn’t his usual self IMO

I haven’t seen the game yet, but frankly Busi hasn’t played his best since the Euros, and it’s worrying me. I suppose it’s inevitable that he would have a drop in form, everybody does eventually, and he has been playing at such a high level for ages…but it worries me. At least we have Song now so Busi can get some rest.
