Gameday Yet Again

Another gameday!

I’m starting to roll into full on basketball mode as March Madness gets started today with Selection Sunday, but that motor isn’t fully cranking yet, so I’ve still got time for my beloved Barça (but of course) and its trip to the northern reaches of Cantabria. It might actually be warmer here in New York than in Spain–at least at kickoff–which is wonderful news for me and something worth celebrating a little. That and another chance to watch the blaugrana run around a field kicking a ball.

I fully realize what is happening around the league and that it is getting very close to that time when there is simply no way back for the league title. But that’s not up to us at the moment (and won’t be until April 21 or 22), so we simply have to focus on playing our game and being the best we can be. Consider it preparation for the Champions League quarterfinals if you wish. The draw for that is this coming Friday and should offer up a lot of matchups worth discussing.

In the end, though, I prefer to think of this as another chance to demonstrate the team’s quality and philosophy. Perhaps Racing will put a fight, perhaps not. They’re in the relegation zone and Messi loves to score against them, so that could prove very tough for them, but then again, Barça is on the road. That’s a place that has been tricky in La Liga and has probably cost the team the title. 5 wins, 5 draws, and a loss. If you don’t put away your chances,  you don’t win. So we line up and we play ball and, if we stick to our guns, we can come out with 3 points and a beautiful display.

And that, folks, is what it’s all about. In case you haven’t seen it, enjoy, even if it’s missing quite a few at this point:

Breathe in and enjoy. This is once in a lifetime.

  1. Apparently nToño in goal tonight for Santander – he’s out due to suspension. Instead it’s a relatively new GK who’s only had about 3 games – Cuesta.

Let’s hope that he doesn’t get scarred for life by Messi – or should we hope that he does? 😀

  2. Yep, he received a Red last weekend and is suspended for this game as is Pique. Not that Pique would’ve got the start. Did anyone else see that Berlusconi wants to bring Mascherano to AC Milan w/Tevez? It’s only speculation, but I hope it’s only a hopeful wish by Berlusconi. Mash seems quite happy at FCB and he’s Messi’s best friend on the club, so I’ve read. Any thought’s Isaiah?

  3. Lineup via FCB facebook: Valdés, Alves, Mascherano, Puyol, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc, Pedro, Messi & Cuenca
