    Got Hectorized, reposting:

Sadly the Juvenil A team lost their game against Ajax A 0-3 today so they are out of the NextGen tournament. I wasn’t able to watch the game, but I wanted to say how very proud I am of the performance of this young team. In some cases they were playing teams 2-3 years older than themselves, and they made an excellent showing. In the process they gained valuable international experience, and gave the world a chance to see what the Barça youth system is all about. It has been a real pleasure to watch future stars like Dongou, Samper, and Grimaldo show their stuff. I hope this tournament becomes a permanent fixture.

So, was it already in the knockout stage?

Did Rafinha play? Dongou? Deulofeu? Or are they all too old to play in the NextGen Series? 🙂

Anyway, Ajax is the only team against which I can accept the defeat with a smile on my face, at least Cruyff’s youth system works there. And this is a blow to van Gaal because as far as I know, he wanted to change the whole youth system and all the coaches of AFC Ajax…
Now they are succesful and Cruyff has won the complaint.

Dongou played, but not the other two. The team in the NextGen tournament was the Barcelona Juvenil A team, coached by Oscar Garcia, so no Barça B players participated. This was one of the quarterfinal matches, so Ajax now advances to the semifinal.

This is basically an U-19 tournament, & teams were allowed to include 3 overage players. The Juvenil A players are mostly 16 or 17, with a couple who have recently turned 18, and I don’t believe Barcelona included any overage players. So they really were playing kids a couple of years older than most of them.

Disappointing to see them knocked out, but considering the opposition they really had a fantastic tournament. Very proud.

This was Barca! God i missed watching us play like this. We were spectacular at times tonight, only the finishing let us down. Really should have been 4 or 5 nill.

Its hard to point to a single player because I thought everyone played well but Thiago, Sanchez and Mascherano really stood out for me. Those 3 just keep getting better and better and better. Some of the runs Sanchez made tonight were really amazing, I wish the midfielders would read them more, i guess it will come. The run he made for the second goal was very clever, he spread the defense completely and then passed the ball to exacly the space he knew would be free. I had no idea he had such a great footballing brain. I cannot wait till the players really get used to him, its gona be something special. Plus his work rate is off the charts, track backs like a madman and he actually know how to the win the ball cleanly.

coulda been 4-3 actually. pinto was huge and mascherano made a nice clearance when pinto was caught out. valencia definitely had their chances…. but we were clearly “superior,” in the words of senor X. Hernandez

Pique as left forward being supplied by Mascha in Central attacking midfield and puyol leading counter attacks and thiago’s pirouettes and RB alves on for striker alexis, this was an insanely entertaining match.

Off we go to the final and potentially our 4th title of the season.

I hope it would be our 5th or even 6th, because la Liga and the CL are finished before the CdR final will be played :=)

Helge’s saying that he’s hoping that the CdR final will be maybe the 5th or 6th title to win this season.

      So far, Barca has:
      1. Spanish Supacopa – Won
      2. Euro Super Cup – Won
      3. Club World Cup – Won

      Playing for:
      4. La Liga
      5. UEFA Champions League

Both 4 and 5 will be decided before the CdR Final on May 25th.

If Barca wins either 4 or 5, the CdR will be the 5th title to win.

If Barca wins 4 AND 5, the CdR will be the 6th title to win.

      Forgot to add:

      Playing for:
      6. Copa del Rey

    • February 8, 2012

oh, this season they’ll hold the final on May 25th?
last season it was on April, that’s why I don’t understand.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant to say.

And, as a corollary of the above mentioned, if the CdR turns out to be our 4th trophy of the season, both la Liga and the CL will have been won by another team – probably EE…

As coach of FC Barcelona, Pep Guardiola has won 24 out of 26 two legged ties :O

Basques vs Catalans at Bernabeu, por favor? 😀

I’m so happy with our performance, only the finishing that was not sharp enough..

Yes, it’s “only” Copa del Rey, but this season the journey was really tough.. Evil Empire, Valencia, and Bilbao.. Add injury crisis and fatigue to that..

    We must win this trophy..

How dare the team play this well in February, shame!

The team showed us how important they think the CDR is to them, which is refreshing. Also on another positive note, this is the first game in a long time where we clearly outplayed Valencia, they usually give us a lot of headaches and we tend to always struggle. This is a really good sign for things to come, its go time!
