Osasuna – Barcelona: Second Leg Liveblog

We carry a 4-0 lead from the first leg, and unless Hell freezes over (I wouldn’t mind if that meant we got some snow in upstate NY) we will be punching our free Clasico card tonight and getting two free Clasico’s. Iniesta and Alves were left home to defend the fort Nou against any preemptive Madridista attacks (although Khedira won’t be pulling any blitzkriegs anytime soon), but Montoya and Sergi get first team starts. This is Post-Maxwell Match One, so let the dawn of Montoya begin.

Starting XI: Pinto, Montoya, Pique, Fontas, Adriano, Mascherano, Thiago, Sergi Roberto, Cuenca, Pedro, Sanchez

Bench: Valdes, Puyol, Abidal, Busquets, Xavi, Fabregas, Messi

Refreshments, as always, served shortly before kickoff. 4:00 PM EST

The Fontas injury looked quite bad 🙁

Messi is now the first player ever to score and assist in 6 competitions during a single season!

Fontas with an ACL, Pedro with a hamstring by the looks of where he was clutching his leg.

ACL? Is that a guess or already confirmed?

It would be the 2nd ACL of the season, right? Ibi also got it :/
Would be the end for Fontas’ season. Sucks!

Poor Fontas. Just when he gets to play and this happens.

Terrible injury for Fontas and seems 3 weeks out for Pedro. Our injury stats this season is so frustrating. We lost two backup defenders after Maxwell also leaving for PSG. Pep in presser said we will not buy players this winter. So perhaps Montoya or Bartra would be called up for temporary replacement.

Too bad for Pedro as well, he hasn’t reach his best performance yet after the last injury and now he must lay down again. Expect to see more Alves to play up front in few next matches, as we are short of forward for the next 3-4 weeks.

So who would you rather have keeping against EE? Pinto or Valdes?

where is the source saying pedro is out 3 weeks? cant find anything on it. this would be horrible, look at all the strikers we are missing = villa, pedro, afellay. looks like cuenca will be playing in the clasicos.

    alexis messi cuenca
    iniesta xavi busi
    eric gerard carles dani

i guess fab or thiago could also play but beyond that we dont have a lot of offense off the bench. i suppose we could push iniesta up into the front line as well.

I don’t think you can start Cuenca. His frame will get snapped like a toothpick by the thugs on EE. I’m looking at you, Marcelo. (And Arbeloa, were he not suspended.)

Either Cesc with the same line-up as previous clasico, or Adriano on the wing.

I don’t think Pep will put his second goalscorer (Mr. Fabulous) on the bench for Cuenca.

anyway, I’m tired of El Clasico, tbh. it’ll be the 9th and 10th Clasicos since Mou coach them.

however it must be a great feeling if we can beat them again.

I don’t agree playing cuenca for classico. The responsible he would carry is too much for his calibre. I prefer playing cesc or push iniesta forward and play thiago in the middle.

We still don’t have clue what strategy that EE would choose. Observing from mou habit, targeting goalless draw in 1st leg at home is the one probably he choose.

And to be honest, Cuenca is not in the sparkling form he used to be during his first matches with the A team.
Maybe he feels some pressure of expectation now, I dunno.

At least I would not start him either in the Clasicos, maybe use him as a sub (since he’s the only attacker left).
I would play Cesc, Xavi and Iniesta, so that Cesc can play more advanced.
